POCKET MONEY

Pocket money should be remitted in the office and NOT be sent to Members of the Staff. For obvious reasons, the withdrawal of pocket money is controlled.

As part of their training, children are encouraged to live within their means and to manage with whatever pocket money they get each week.

Sending parcels is discouraged. However, where parents send parcels to their children, these must be addressed to them, Care of the Principal and Secretary of the School. Transport charges for heavy parcels will be paid by the sender. Please note that all parcels will be opened in the office to assess contents.

CLOTHES

The list of clothing is given on pages 16, 17 and 18 of the prospectus. Although children are obliged to wear the School uniform during the week, they can wear other clothes on Sundays and holidays. It is essential that all clothes sent with children should be clearly marked with the child's name.

N.B: All children must come adequately equipped with toilet requisites for the whole term.

VALUABLES

Expensive articles such as jewellery, costly pens, cassette recorders, transistors, calculators, video games, watches, cell phones etc., should not be brought to School. If they are brought into the campus, the School will take disciplinary action against the children that do so.

LETTER-WRITING

Children of Standards I and II will write home twice a month. Children of Standards III-XII will write home once a week. Each child is supplied with an Inland Letter or Aerogramme, as the case may be, every Friday. The Class Teachers collect the letters over the week-end, and these are posted every Monday.

Parents who wish their children to write to guardian or relatives, should indicate this in writing to the Principal, and should give the names and addresses of the guardians or relatives in question.

We would like to emphasise that it does a great deal for the morale of children if parents write to them regularly. It is damaging to the morale of the children if letters from home contain painful or distressing matters of a domestic nature and, wherever possible, such news should not be included in letters to children, unless it is unavoidable.

OFFICIAL CORRESPONDENCE

Correspondence, or other communications, on all matters concerning a child, must be addressed to the Principal and Secretary, and not to him by name. This is necessary to avoid delay, in case the Principal is away. This does not apply to letters of a personal or private nature. Please note that parents are NOT permitted to address letters to Teachers, Wardens or Matrons or any other Staff regarding school matters.

It is important that parents notify the Principal and Secretary of any change of address; telephone number - landline or mobile.

NOTICE OF WITHDRAWAL

If a parent intends to withdraw a child, whether a Boarder or Day Scholar, three months' notice must be given. In lieu of notice, three months' fees(covering both board and tuition) will have to be paid. Where a child is not coming back to School for the next academic year, the parent concerned must give the School notice by March 1st of the year in question. The notice must be conveyed to the Principal in writing. In the case of students of Std. XI, if a child, after paying the fees for the year, decides to withdraw, NO FEES WILL BE RETURNED. He/She will however, be entitled to return of Caution Deposit. The Caution Deposit and Admission Fee will NOT be refunded if parents/guardians decide NOT to admit the child after admission has been granted. If a child fails for two years to pass out of a class, he/she will have to be withdrawn. The Transfer Certificate of a child leaving the school will be issued only after all the dues relating to the child have been paid in full.

HOLIDAY ARRANGEMENTS

For those who wish to go by Air or Train, escorts will be provided only up to Coimbatore.

The cost of travel, whether by taxi, bus, train or aeroplane will be borne by the parents. There will also be an escort fee for those children who are escorted on their journey.

Where air travel is involved, it is suggested that parents make their own flight arrangements. However, such arrangements can also be made through other travel agents of the parent's choice. As mentioned above, the School will arrange for transport as far as Coimbatore only.

Holidays are clearly indicated in the calendar supplied by the School. However, parents will be informed in advance of the impending holiday period.

Where children have to travel by train, parents will have to apply well in advance for Railway concession forms. The concession applies from Ketti to the place where the parents are permanently resident.

DISCIPLINE

Where a child is guilty of gross insubordination or indiscipline, or repeated acts of indiscipline or misbehaviour, the parents concerned will be informed. Children who appear to be intractable or who, in spite of warnings and punishment, commit repeated acts of indiscipline, will be expelled.

LOCAL GUARDIANS

Children are allowed to visit or to stay with local guardians provided that the parents concerned have given their written permission for such visit or stay, to the Principal and have indicated the local guardian's name & address in the Application Form.

Children are not permitted to stay outside the School at week-ends, or be taken out by parents or guardians, except where indicated in the School Calendar.

VISITING SCHOOL

Visiting days and hours will be indicated in the School Calendar.

In the interest of the children and of their studies, parents are requested not to visit on days not indicated as 'Visiting Days' in the School Calendar.

EXEATS

No Boarder can leave the School campus without permission. If the presence of a Boader is not required in the School, on a holiday or 'month end', permission may be given to visit Ooty or to visit a parent residing elsewhere in the Nilgiris.

Special Exeats, giving children permission to leave the campus on days NOT indicated in the School Calendar, will be issued by the Principal only. Week-end Exeats are issued by the Cottage Wardens or Matrons. Please note that the Exeat Slip must be brought back to school for verification when the child returns.

Little children, or girls, will be escorted to Ooty by a member of the House Staff.

INTERVIEWS

Interviews with the Principal are from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. To avoid disappointment, parents are advised to make an appointment in advance of the visit. The Principal is not available for interviews on Sundays or on holidays when the Office is closed.

CINEMA

The School is equipped with Internet connection as well as TV, VCP, VCR, VCD and DVD. Educational and Recreational films in English are regularly screened.

JURISDICTION

All claims and disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Courts in Coonoor.

BANKERS

The State Bank of India, Ketti Valley (Code 7290), are the Bankers for the School. Where possible, Drafts or cheques remitted to the School from abroad should be made out in Indian Rupees.

AMENDMENTS

The School Authorities reserve the right to alter, revise, add to, or otherwise change, any of the above Terms and Rules, without notice, and at their own absolute discretion.

No institution is perfect. Though the aim may be to achieve perfection. The Principal will welcome constructive suggestions and advice for improving any aspect of the School administration or policy. Such suggestions or advice will be given consideration, bearing in mind the character of the School, its tradition, history, constitution and curriculum.
