Achievements

The Laidlaw Memorial School & Junior College, Ketti provides its students with a sound knowledge in subjects like Computer Science and in the field of information technology to keep pace with the modern world. Students are given opportunities to display their confidence, manifest their talents and express themselves through co-curricular activities such as debates, dramatics and singing. Regular quizzes held in the school keep the students up-to-date with knowledge in the field of current affairs, along with science and information technology in the fast changing world. The school provides for career counselling from visiting directors from foreign universities. Law is a career much sought after by the students and two students from Laidlaw have recently studied law at Oxford University and made a name for themselves in legal circles by publishing articles in some of the finest law journals in the world!

The school has a well-equipped and state of the-art computer lab which provides facilities to all students for internet access.

The response from NRI parents of the pupils at the school has been very positive. They seem to be very impressed with the school curriculum and are quite satisfied with their wards’ progress in the school. This is evident from the high placement of our students in top universities abroad.

Students from abroad have no problem in adjusting to the environment in the school since they keep themselves involved in all activities held in the school. Moreover the pollution – free environment and huge campus of 200 acres at an elevation of 6800 feet keeps the students healthy and fit and adds to their joyous life in school.

The school treats sports and games on par with academics. Sports and games are compulsory for all students. The school has excellent facilities for sports. For instance, it has four large fields for soccer, hockey, cricket and athletics. The school also provides adequate facilities for such games as tennis, table tennis, shuttle badminton and basketball. The school has well trained coaches for basketball, athletics, football, hockey and cricket. The excellent performance in the field of sports is evident from the fact that the School consistently places second at the Nilgiris District Sports meet.

The school employs teachers who are highly qualified and experienced in their respective fields. The teachers encourage group discussions among the students and a tremendous emphasis is laid on practical work in the classrooms.

The ICSE / ISC Examinations are recognised abroad for entry into college / universities in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and European countries. Many of the students are doing very well in foreign universities.

The school syllabus aims at making its students reason logically and the syllabus makes it mandatory for all students to do assignments and project work.

The students have a very exhaustive and tight schedule in the school. It keeps the students occupied throughout the day. The school schedule is not a burden on the students as they seem to enjoy the activities that they are engaged in.

The general reaction of the students to the functioning of the school is positive and they have shown no dissatisfaction whatsoever.

The school is a fully-residential one.

Some students find it difficult to adjust to the typically British climate that is prevalent on the Nilgiris Hills. The cold weather is a bit of a problem.

Since this is a boarding school with parents from all over India and abroad, it is difficult to organise a PTA; but parents are encouraged to attend school functions and visit the school at any time to meet teachers with regard to the academic performance of their children, particularly, and generally with regard to their overall performances.

The education provided by the school is on par with the best schools in India, and the school has been ranked seventh among the schools in the country. This school is also listed on the good schools of India website.

Situated amidst the sylvan surroundings of the Nilgiris, Laidlaw Memorial School and Junior College is a much sought-after destination for local Indian children as well as NRIs. The school is quite close to Ooty and Coonoor.
